This is an art class for relaxation that anyone can do, delivered by our guest speaker Mike Robinson, a Salford artist who specialises in pen and ink drawings as well as acrylic paint.
Mike will teach you how to create your very own ink drawing, which Mike calls a ‘Tumble’. You will be taught step-by-step how to create your unique piece of art. All materials will be provided and you will be given a set of starter pens so that you can continue your art work after the session. Rather than taking a colouring book and colouring someone elses design. By the end of the session you will have created your own unique piece of art.
Mindfulness is all about living in the present moment and art therapy is an ideal tool to get you out of your head; all the thoughts of what you need to do, or perhaps going over things that have happened in the past, or mulling over conversations (imaginary or real). Art can absorb you in the present moment releasing you from tension and anxiety. Mike began creating his drawings as a way of distracting his mind at a difficult time – learn more about Mike’s journey.
Mike coined the term Tumble for his drawings because he begins at the top left of the page and ends up at the bottom right. Tumbling is a skill you can continue after the class and can be completed almost anywhere. As you will see below, Mike began one of his drawings whilst waiting in the doctor’s surgery.

Some of Mike’s drawings, such as this one, are very large and detailed and take him several weeks to complete.
